Project:

FACS

Main Objective

The FACS - Future Automotive Cockpit & Storage project aims at the design, development, and demonstration of a new architecture and new modules for the interior of professional vehicles (van type)

Overview

The FACS seeks to anticipate the evolutionary trend of the automotive industry towards autonomous vehicles, as well as the opportunities that this evolution brings to the commercial vehicles' interior. These developments will allow for the integration of user-centred features into the cockpit of professional vehicles. Moreover, these features are regarded as being highly innovative, sustainable and differentiating when compared to everything else currently existing on the world market.

It is expected that the interior redesign of professional vehicles will evolve significantly in its configuration, meeting not only the transportation needs of occupants, cargo, and equipment. But also other needs and uses (such as working, communicating, eating and resting) arising from the free time provided by the operation of the autonomous vehicles. Thus, it is anticipated that vehicles in this category will move from mere cargo vehicles to sophisticated mobile offices, itinerant yards or entertainment lounges, functioning for their drivers and occupants as extensions of their offices or workshops. In this perspective, the new interior architecture must be compatible with a strong customization in accordance with the intended use.
