ATLANTIC OCEAN OBSERVATORY
Observatory

OVERVIEW

Improving the knowledge about the ocean is a major objective shared by nations and scientific communities worldwide, but poses numerous challenges due to the complexity of the marine environment. Inability to find data, lack of access authorization, restrictions on end-use, difficulty in combining data, costs higher than the user's budget, are some of these challenges.

To address these challenges, CEiiA is involved in the creation of the Atlantic Ocean Observatory, a project focused on the creation of a digital infrastructure for data collection, aggregation and brokerage of entities operating in the Atlantic, including continental Portugal and autonomous regions.

The technological solution will consist of an integrated open digital platform for the management and dissemination of data associated with the Ocean, in which entities and individuals duly certified, will be able to consult and obtain information, in a safe and integrated way, on the geological resources, biological, chemical, water column, shipping routes among other features.
