CEiiA was recognized as a Collaborative Laboratory (CoLAB) by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), within a program aimed at creating skilled and scientific jobs in Portugal.
In line with CEiiA's own vision for a better future, the main objetive of the CoLAB for Smart and Sustainable Living is to accelerate the transformation of cities into smart and sustainable urban ecosystems, promoting liveability.
The CoLAB for Smart and Sustainable Living is set on an interdisciplinary and multi-institutional framework. Disciplines include engineering, data science, design, urban planning, architecture, economics, sociology and, even, psychology. Partner organisations are universities, R&D centres, companies, start-ups, municipalities, social and cultural associations, and the civil society. The active role of local governments and citizens is a distinctive characteristic of this CoLAB, which is not only centred on reinforcing the traditional science-industry interface, but privileges co-creation, open innovation and users’ engagement from development to experimentation and testing phases.
